Nonprofit claims 21-day gang ceasefire reached in Stockton as leaders push back

Stockton officials are questioning a Texas nonprofit’s claim of a 21-day gang truce and warn that public safety cannot rely on unverified agreements following a mass shooting that left four dead and 13 injured.

The Youth Peace & Justice Foundation (YPJF), formerly known as the Uvalde Foundation for Kids, said it brokered a temporary, conditional truce with gang leaders from Friday, Dec. 12, to Friday, Jan. 2, following a confidential meeting.

The foundation said those involved in the meeting agreed to “hold violence in abeyance to save lives, restore order, and ensure members return to long-standing traditions regarding who is involved and what is off-limits in gang conflict.”…
