The California State Controller’s Office has confirmed it is auditing the city of Stockton to examine how public funds are managed and whether taxpayer money has been misused or spent improperly.
Vice Mayor Jason Lee, chair of the Council Audit Committee, announced on Monday, Dec. 8, that the state controller’s office had formally initiated an audit after the Stockton City Council referred multiple fiscal oversight concerns to state and county authorities.
“The state controller’s decision to move forward validates what many of us have been sounding the alarm about for months,” Lee said. “Stockton residents deserve full transparency, strong internal controls, and absolute accountability in how public dollars are managed. This audit is a critical step toward restoring stability, truth and trust.”…
