Modesto police, volunteers honor MLK Day by transforming rooms for local youth

(FOX40.COM) — Instead of taking the day off, Modesto police officers and community volunteers spent Martin Luther King Jr. Day serving families in need, one bedroom at a time.

The Modesto Police Department partnered with the Healthy Room Project and several other law enforcement agencies in their Day of Service to remodel bedrooms for youth across Modesto, Turlock, and Manteca. In total, nine homes were renovated, supporting 20 kids with new beds, furniture, groceries, and other essential items.

Some volunteers said there was no better way to honor Dr. King’s legacy than by showing kindness to others…
