Children traumatized after deadly shooting at Stockton Flea Market

STOCKTON, Calif — Just under a week after gunshots rang out inside the Stockton Flea Market, killing two people and injuring another, families are still grappling with the trauma left behind — especially children who witnessed the violence firsthand.

Six days after bullets pierced metal storefronts and blood stained the floor, business had returned to the flea market in south Stockton on Saturday. But for Jessica Velez, the memories are still playing out through the words and behavior of her young grandchildren.

“They talk about the bad guys and they talk about the store owner with his gun and shooting the bad guys,” Velez said. “They were right there in the middle of all of it and that’s just too much for a 4-and-5-year-old to go through.”…
