Nurses to support slain RN Pretti at Sacramento, Roseville rallies

(FOX40.COM) — The nation’s largest nurses union is holding a vigil in Sacramento to honor registered nurse Alex Pretti, who was killed by a federal agent last weekend.

National Nurses United on Tuesday announced a series of candlelight vigils across the country, including in Sacramento, Roseville and Modesto. The union, which represents more than 225,000 members across the country, said the actions aim to honor and seek justice for Pretti — and to demand Congress oppose funding for immigration enforcement agencies.

Pretti, who worked as an intensive care unit nurse at the Minneapolis Veterans Affairs hospital, was killed by a U.S. Border Patrol officer in Minneapolis on Saturday, just weeks after the Jan. 7 fatal shooting of Renee Good by a U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement officer in the same city. Mary Turner, a registered nurse from Minnesota and president of the union, said U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement “messed with the wrong profession.”…
