Stockton mayor leaves council meeting mid-session before controversial item is tabled

Mayor Christina Fugazi left the dais midway through Tuesday’s Stockton City Council meeting after moving public comment to the end of the session and before the council could table a controversial proposal to re-establish the Charter Review Ad-Hoc Committee.

At the start of the meeting, Fugazi said she would move general public comment to the end of the agenda, drawing pushback from councilmembers and residents who would have to wait longer to speak. Public comment allows residents to address officials directly on city business.

Fugazi told attendees the decision was intended to give speakers more time. She said she would increase public comment from two minutes to three minutes, but residents would have to wait until after the consent agenda and public hearing…
