A 21-year-old Stockton woman who went missing after a dune buggy crash into the Delta-Mendota Canal in Merced County has been recovered and identified as Lupita Lizbeth Zúñiga Ontiveros.
The Merced County Sheriff’s Office announced Feb. 10 that the body of Zúñiga Ontiveros, who had been missing since Jan. 28, was recovered and identified.
“Today, the Merced County Coroner’s Office has positively identified the decedent as 21-year-old Lupita Lizbeth Zuniga-Ontiveros,” the Merced County Sheriff’s Office said in a Facebook post. “Our thoughts are with Lupita’s family and loved ones during this tragic time.”
According to authorities, the California Highway Patrol requested assistance from the Merced County Sheriff’s Office in the early hours of Jan. 28 to locate a missing passenger after a Polaris RZR, a type of dune buggy, crashed into the Delta-Mendota Canal…
