Modesto Police Department arrests 5 in “Shoulder Tap” operation

(FOX40.COM) -The Modesto Police Department announced five arrests on Wednesday following a “Shoulder Tap” enforcement operation targeting the furnishing of alcohol to minors. The arrests took place during a citywide sweep conducted on February 21.

During a Shoulder Tap operation, officers supervise a minor who stands outside a liquor or convenience store. The minor is instructed to ask adult customers to purchase alcohol for them. If an adult agrees to buy the alcohol for the minor, they are arrested and cited by the monitoring police officers.

Those arrested in the operation face significant penalties under California law. The five individuals could be ordered to pay a minimum $1,000 fine and complete 24 hours of community service.
