Owner, manager charged after chemical blast at Modesto waste facility

(FOX40.COM) — The Stanislaus County District Attorney’s Office announced criminal charges following an investigation into a chemical explosion and fire at the Gilton Resource Recovery Facility that injured a worker and endangered firefighters.

According to the DA’s office, the explosion happened on March 27, 2025, when 55-gallon drums allegedly containing hazardous waste from Advanced Materials Manufacturing Technologies LLC were offloaded at the recycling facility.

The DA’s office reported that employees working near the drums did not know they contained highly flammable powdered magnesium and aluminum. The materials ignited and exploded, causing a fire and leaving one worker with minor injuries…
