Former Stockton deputy police chief on leave in Reno amid investigation

(FOX40.COM) — Former Stockton police leader Kathryn Nance is on leave in Reno amid an investigation.

Nance, now Reno’s chief of police, and five officers were placed on administrative leave Monday. She was appointed to the position in early 2023 after a 25-year career in Stockton, becoming the Nevada city’s first female police chief.

The officers are on leave pending the outcome of an independent investigation into alleged — and unspecified — violations of Reno policies. Reno Mayor Hillary Schieve said she requested the Nevada Department of Public Safety conduct the investigation to ensure its independence and objectivity.

“Public safety and maintaining the trust of our community are our highest priorities,” Schieve said in a statement. “When concerns are raised involving leadership in the Reno Police Department, it is our responsibility to address them thoughtfully and transparently while ensuring the safety of our residents.”…
