Man who dumped oil into Stockton waterway gets 6 years

(FOX40.COM) — The man who illegally dumped more than 200 gallons of waste oil that flowed into a Stockton waterway in 2024 has been sentenced to prison.

David Sump, 52, has been sentenced to six years in prison — twice the three-year maximum due to a prior-strike conviction, according to the San Joaquin County District Attorney’s Office. He was arrested in March 2025.

He will pay nearly $53,000 and roughly $41,400 to the California Department of Fish and Wildlife and the United States Environmental Protection Agency, respectively…
