Manteca daycare owner accused of infant death released from jail

The owner of a licensed home-based daycare in Manteca who was arrested last year after an infant died in her care was released on bail this month.

Roxanne Helus, the owner of Cherished Years Daycare, was arrested in October on suspicion of felony child endangerment while intoxicated.

Helus had been out on bail prior to her first arraignment, but was detained during the hearing and charged with second-degree murder of 5-month-old Christian Olvera. She is also charged with four counts of child abuse and endangerment, according to an amended complaint. She faces a special allegation of causing death…
