Yesterday’s ride on Escalon-Bellota Road ended in tragedy when a motorcycle crashed into a pickup towing a livestock trailer, killing the rider and leaving his passenger with major injuries, according to authorities. The man was pronounced dead at the scene, and the woman riding with him was rushed to a hospital with serious injuries. The rural stretch of road south of Highway 4 was shut down for hours while first responders and investigators worked the scene. The pickup driver was not reported injured.
Crash details
The California Highway Patrol told CBS Sacramento that the collision happened shortly after 1 PM. A Ford pickup towing a livestock trailer had slowed to make a left turn when a 2008 Honda sport-type motorcycle behind it did not slow in time. The bike hit the trailer and both people on the motorcycle were thrown from it.
CHP identified the rider as a 43-year-old Modesto man who died at the scene, and the passenger as a 41-year-old Modesto woman who was taken to a hospital with major injuries, according to the agency. No additional identifying information has been released.
