Stockton families, businesses feel strain of rising Easter costs

STOCKTON, Calif. — Easter Sunday is bringing families together across San Joaquin County, but higher prices are making those celebrations more expensive this year.

“There was a bag of candy for 25 bucks, or 20 bucks. It did look a little steep, and I did hear people complaining about the prices,” said Jonas Latteri, a Lodi shopper.

According to February’s Consumer Price Index, candy prices have increased 11.6% over the past year. The National Retail Federation expects consumers to spend a record $24.9 billion this Easter, with the average budget rising about $4 from last year to an estimated $195.59 per person…
