‘This is ridiculous’ | San Joaquin sheriff criticizes release law after felon rearrest

STOCKTON, Calif. — A convicted Stockton felon, once sentenced to 20 years in prison for the attempted murder of two Stockton police officers, is back behind bars months after being released under California’s compassionate release program.

The San Joaquin County Sheriff’s Office says 57-year-old Steven Rodriguez was arrested May 7 on multiple weapons-related charges, including possession of a firearm by a prohibited person, possession of a short-barreled rifle and unlawful possession of ammunition.
