MODESTO, CA — A repeat DUI offender was taken into custody on allegations of his fifth DUI offense after fleeing a traffic stop initiated for reckless driving at the intersection of Carpenter Road and Paradise Road.
A California Highway Patrol (CHP) officer initiated the enforcement action after observing a vehicle passing other motorists on the right-hand shoulder of the roadway at a high rate of speed. When the officer attempted to conduct the traffic stop, the driver failed to yield, prompting a short vehicle pursuit.
The driver eventually brought the vehicle to a stop and was detained by responding officers without further incident. A subsequent roadside investigation revealed that the operator was driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
