Former inmate arrested after alleged attempt to bring marijuana, cellphones onto Ventress prison grounds

MONTGOMERY, Ala. — Correctional officers at Ventress Correctional Facility arrested a man early Monday after officials said he was found inside the prison perimeter and packages of suspected contraband were recovered on the grounds.

The Alabama Department of Corrections said an officer spotted an unauthorized man around 12:19 a.m. June 1, 2026, in the facility’s perimeter area. Shift leaders were notified and ADOC K-9 officers helped secure the perimeter and locate the man, officials said. He was detained without incident and identified as Antwan Demetrius Blue of Montgomery, a former ADOC inmate, the department said.

During a search of the area, staff recovered six large packages wrapped in brown tape that had been hidden on the property, according to ADOC. Officials said the packages contained about 2.4 pounds of marijuana and 16 cellphones…
