County commission chairman calls Jackson Hospital’s potential closure “a desperate situation,” but insists there’s “still hope”

MONTGOMERY, Ala. (WSFA) – Montgomery County Commission Chairman Doug Singleton is urging Jackson Hospital and Blue Cross Blue Shield to make a deal to prevent the hospital’s closure.

The Hospital’s CEO, John Quinlivan, confirmed Thursday that if a deal was not struck by June 25, the hospital would close starting July 1.

Quinlivan believes they are not getting a fair reimbursement rate from BCBS, citing that Baptist Medical Center South gets about 70% more from the insurance provider. BCBS says they have been “more than fair” during the reimbursement process and that what Jackson Hospital is seeking would be neither affordable nor fair to our customers…
