ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) — Monday and Tuesday are First Alert Weather Days. Monday brings the chance for early morning storms, while Tuesday could see dangerous heat with the heat index exceeding 105° in many spots.
Monday Morning: Storms possible
We’re watching a tricky setup tonight, where a system in the Tennessee Valley could push Southeast into Alabama and Georgia. If it is able to hold together, some stronger storms are possible, especially in NW Georgia. If the system weakens as it gets closer, rain and storm chances would be much lower with a mostly dry morning. Regardless, the morning commute looks a bit unsettled with a dry second half of the day.
What to watch: Storms could arrive as early as 4 AM Monday in northwest Georgia and potentially reach the metro Atlanta area just in time for the morning commute. Some lingering showers are possible into the late morning hours if the system holds together.
Monday afternoon looks quiet with partly cloudy skies and highs in the upper 80s and lower 90s.
Tuesday: Dangerous heat
Heat index values are expected to reach 100 to 108 degrees across North Georgia. A Heat Advisory will likely be issued. There could also be a stray strong storm, but we’ll still have lots of dry time, overall.
Heat safety reminder: Limit outdoor activities during peak heat hours (11 a.m. to 4 p.m.). Drink plenty of water, check on elderly neighbors and pets, and never leave children or pets in vehicles.
