Supply truck driver accused of smuggling marijuana into Alabama prison

BARBOUR COUNTY, Ala. (WSFA) – A supply distributor employee was arrested after attempting to sneak contraband into Easterling Correctional Facility, according to the Alabama Department of Corrections.

Richard Nixon was charged with first-degree possession of marijuana, second-degree promoting prison contraband and third-degree promoting prison contraband.

Alabama Department of Corrections correctional staff found a package containing contraband while unloading a supply distributor truck at the facility on Sept. 25. The package contained about 516 grams of marijuana, 169 grams of tobacco and two packages of rolling paper.

ADOC Narcotics Unit agents conducted a follow-up investigation with the supply distributor and determined Nixon placed the package on a pallet shipped for Easterling. A warrant was obtained in Montgomery County for first-degree possession of marijuana. Additional warrants for second-degree promoting prison contraband and third-degree promoting prison contraband were obtained in Barbour County…
