Oak Ridge Boys legend William Lee Golden is grand marshal at Millbrook’s Mardi Gras parade

Though the Oak Ridge Boys’ farewell tour is rolling through Montgomery on March 2, the band’s beloved bearded baritone will be in the area Saturday to help kick off the River Region’s Mardi Gras celebrations.

William Lee Golden, a native of Brewton, is the grand marshal for the Millbrook Revelers Mardi Gras Festival and Parade. Saturday’s fun is happening from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. at Village Green Park, 3199 Main St., Millbrook. The festival is an alcohol-free, family-friendly event. The parade starts at noon, after staging at Mill Creek Park.

Golden, a country and gospel music icon, will be glad to see all his fans in Millbrook. The 85-year-old “Mountain Man” said fans are the reason the Oak Ridge Boys are still on the road.

“We are doing a farewell tour because we owe it to our fans to say goodbye,” Golden said in a release Sunday. “They have always been there for us through the good times and the bad. I will always be thankful to every person who came out to a show, bought a t-shirt, played our music, and overall, loved us enough to spend their hard-earned money whenever they could. This tour is for you!”
