Autauga County school bus driver ‘no longer employed’ after student was left behind on bus

Two days after a child was discovered to have been left behind on an Autauga County Schools bus, the district announced that the bus driver responsible won’t be driving any of its buses anymore.

“The driver is no longer employed by the Autauga County Board of Education,” ACS Superintendent Lyman Woodfin said in a statement. “We will continue to prioritize student safety in all we do.”

A statement from the district confirmed that the incident happened Tuesday after school. An ACS spokesperson said administration was “fully cooperating with local agencies to support the child.” Autauga County opened an investigation into the matter that day.

Just after 5 p.m. Thursday, a spokesperson announced that the investigation concluded and the one bus driver would not be working for ACS anymore. It is unclear whether the driver quit or was fired.

“ACS will continue to follow all state and district policies relating to student safety and seek ways to continuously improve student safety in all areas,” a statement on Thursday read.
