Letter: Climate change efforts can’t be one-sided

Last week I happened to be listening to the radio when an interview with a serious climate activist was going on. According to him the world would be doomed by climate change if we didn’t curtail farming and fishing as we do both now. The problem with his reasoning was he didn’t offer an alternative for food production to feed the world population. It was stopping farming, end of discussion.

It was like he didn’t see the relationship between people and the food required to stay alive. Or worse yet he didn’t realize the food in the grocery store comes from farms, is processed, and packaged and then put in the stores. Food isn’t produced by magic; it takes work and yes it needs energy, both manual and mechanical to produce it. To add insult to injury, there doesn’t exist an electric tractor that can work more than six hours before needing to be charged overnight for hours. That isn’t going to help farmers keep up crop production.

His focus and it seems most of the climate change activists are completely one-sided and not only unreasonable but impossible for the health, well-being, and continuation of mankind. Saving the planet at the expense of humanity is truly counterproductive, there must be better solutions.
