Highland Gardens United Neighborhood Association, President Patricia June, and Vice President Gilda Milner, will partner with the ‘Sound The Alarm’ Red Cross, and local Fire Departments to educate, and help with providing the residents with free fire alarms that are provided by the Red Cross, at no cost to the residents, including installing fire extinguishers through sponsors.
Smoke detectors and fire extinguishers are considered to be one of the most important safety devices you can have in your home, along with a planned fire escape, and evacuation plan. Studies have shown that properly functioning smoke detectors can reduce the chances of dying in a fire by nearly 50 percent, according to GuideOne Insurance.
In addition to smoke detectors, the installation of fire extinguishers in the home is another important safety precaution. When properly used, a fire extinguisher can help prevent a small fire from turning into a devastating blaze, according to Fire Pevention Fundamentals Safety.
