Letter: People in Montgomery must dream of being slobs

Montgomery may have the motto, Capitol City of Dreams, but based on the amount of trash I have picked up on an almost daily basis maybe Capitol City of Slobs would be appropriate.

I used to carry a grocery store plastic bag and wouldn’t fill it completely in my almost two-mile neighborhood walk, but last week I just picked up all the trash in my front and side yard by the street and that bag was overflowing. Eight beer cans, five plastic water bottles, three pizza slice boxes, two large cardboard boxes, two miniature Jack Daniels, some school papers, some Styrofoam cups, cigar packages, cigarette boxes, fast food bags and even some underwear. Way too much for the area covered. But the best piece of trash last month was a complete Lexus hood on the grass between the street and the sidewalk.

All one must do is drive anywhere along the major roads and the trash is everywhere. Where has the personal civic pride in the people of Montgomery gone to? Even do not litter signs have trash thrown under them. Surely, we can as a community do better.
