Power Bill Assistance Available for Alabama Residents

MONTGOMERY, AL – Alabama’s Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) offers critical support to low-income households struggling to pay their energy bills.

According to the Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs, funded by a grant from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, the program is administered through local community action agencies and nonprofits across the state, helping families with the costs of heating and cooling their homes.

LIHEAP is designed to assist households with the highest energy costs in relation to their income, especially those with vulnerable members, such as the elderly, individuals with disabilities, and young children, according to the Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs.

To qualify, a household’s income must not exceed 150% of the federally established poverty level.

The program aims to not only provide immediate relief but also to help families become more energy self-sufficient in the long run. Those in need of assistance can apply by contacting their local community action agency, according to the Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs.
