“Why are we doing this work? Because human trafficking, often called modern-day slavery, is the fastest-growing criminal enterprise in the world. Each year, 100,000 to 300,000 American children are at risk of being trafficked for commercial sex in the United States. The average age for a girl to enter the commercial sex trade is 12-14 years old, while boys are even younger at 11-13 years old,” said authorities during a September 2024 news conference regarding ten men who were arrested in Alabama on multiple charges with each attempting to perform inappropriate acts with minors, according to WAAY 31 News.
While most of the men were from different cities in Alabama, two traveled from out of state. During the press conference, in Limestone Cty., with the assistance of Athens, informed the public about those who were arrested.
