MPS students showcase theater talents at ASF during Fall Festival of Shakespeare

A fresh batch of high school thespians is ready for a big debut at Alabama Shakespeare Festival, and you can see these young actors perform some of William Shakespeare’s greatest works Saturday, Oct. 26.

This year’s performances for Fall Festival of Shakespeare have expanded to include three high schools from Montgomery Public Schools:

  • 2 p.m.: “The Winter’s Tale,” by Booker T. Washington Magnet High School, directed by Chauncy Thomas.
  • 4 p.m.: “Romeo and Juliet,” by Percy Julian High School (formerly Lee), directed by Kendrick Golson.
  • 6 p.m.: “Twelfth Night,” by Park Crossing High School, directed by Cameron Williams.

A reception will follow the 6 p.m. performance.

The festival, in its third year, will have around 55 students from the three schools participating. The students are being led by three emerging professional directors.

Percy Julian is the newcomer to the festival, which will take place on ASF’s Octagon Stage.

“The kids at Percy Julian are just so excited that they can actually participate,” Natalie McKnight, fine arts specialist for MPS.
