A Tuscaloosa woman is using her brother’s arrest to address mental health issues in Alabama

TUSCALOOSA, Ala ( WIAT ) – Cannice Tynch is using her brother’s arrest to bring attention to what she and an attorney are saying is a larger issue.

On Monday, Cededric Leon Tinker was arrested on attempted murder charges and taken to the Tuscaloosa County Jail. Tinker is being held without bond according to Tuscaloosa’s Violent Crimes Unit.

“What transpired with my brother is not my brother, that was him in a mental health crisis”, Tynch said.

Tynch explained that, prior to TPD Mental Health officers responding to a call made by the Tinker family on Monday, Tinker was already experiencing a manic episode.

“My brother was lost all night,” Tynch said. “He walked from my mom’s house all the way to Hargrove road.”

Their older brother found Tinker hours before his encounter with law enforcement, Tynch said.

At 10:45 a.m., officers arrived at the Tinker residence to help transport him to a mental health facility for an evaluation, VCU Captain Jack Kennedy said.

“He chose to resist the officers physically, fight them [and] threaten them with harm,” Kennedy said.
