There’s more than one election happening this week. Montgomery educators have nominated two exceptional high schoolers for Student of the Week, and voting is now open.
Student of the Week honors the hard work that high school students across the River Region put into their studies, their schools and their greater community every day, and it aims to recognize as many awesome high schoolers as possible. Every public and private high school in the outer Montgomery area is eligible to nominate one student a week who exemplifies success in academics and community involvement.
Nominees are revealed each Monday, and readers can vote for free until 1 p.m. each Thursday. The winner is revealed each Friday.
Here are the two students who were honored by their schools with nominations for this week’s poll:
Tina Henderson, Percy Julian High School: Tina is a senior and a data analytics student at Percy Julian who was recently recognized as the 2024 Top Alabama State Neuron Earner by the QuantHub Software Company for September. QuantHub software is used throughout Alabama including in several public school districts. This achievement is a remarkable one given that data analytics is a new career and technical education course offered within Montgomery Public Schools this school year. Tina wants to become a nurse and is already a peer mentor to fellow students at Percy Julian. Educators say Tina works hard at her studies and is a testament to the adage that hard work pays off.
