Prattville City Council makes its choice on filling open seat

PRATTVILLE − Russ Sanders has been appointed to the open District 1 seat on the Prattville City Council.

He will fill out the unexpired term of long-serving Councilman Albert Striplin , who died in August . The term runs through August. The appointment was made Wednesday night after the council discussed the candidates in an hour-long executive session.

Sanders is known to the council and city staff. He resigned recently as assistant director of the city’s parks and recreation department, before putting his name in contention for the seat. He was hired as the department’s athletic director 10 years ago, and worked his way up to assistant director.

He works as a salesman at Capital Tractor, the Kubota dealer in Montgomery.

“I’ve always been interested in politics, and the more time we have spent in Prattville the more I have wanted to become more involved,” Sanders said.

He said his prior work with the city give him an advantage.
