PIKE COUNTY, Ala (WDHN) — A Ramer man is facing charges after Alabama authorities claim he led state troopers on a chase through two counties that ended with an armed standoff.
According to the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency, on Monday, a trooper attempted to stop a 2020 Dodge Ram pickup truck on Highway 231, near County Road 7707 in Pike County, but the driver did not stop, and a chase ensued.
Troopers say the chase ended when the driver, identified as 47-year-old Maxi Evans of Ramer, crashed on Highway 94 in Montgomery County.
A release from ALEA says Evans, who was armed with a handgun, got out of the truck and fired at troopers and deputies with the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office. No law enforcement were injured.
After a short standoff and negotiations, Evans was arrested and taken to Baptist Medical Center South in Montgomery for treatment, according to ALEA.
Evans was charged with attempting to elude and is expected to be charged with pending firearm charges.
