LOWNDES COUNTY, Ala. (WSFA) – A fox that repeatedly attacked a hunter in the Burkville community of Lowndes County tested positive for rabies, according to the Alabama Department of Public Health.
The hunter was scratched when the fox repeatedly attacked and bit their shoes. The fox was captured and submitted to ADPH’s laboratory for rabies testing. The unidentified hunter is already being treated.
Rabies really doesn’t have seasons, according to State Public Health Veterinarian, Dr. Dee W. Jones, but in the spring more animal movement does seem to result in an uptick in positive rabid animal cases…
