SPANISH FORT, Ala. (WPMI) — Alabama is auctioning the 5 Rivers Delta Resource Center next month. The 70-acre site located on the Causeway provides educational resources and access to the water. Alabama Department of Conservation and Natural Resources Commissioner Chris Blankenship says that will continue if it is leased or sold to another entity.
“The Department of Conservation and Natural Resources has been approached by an entity that is interested in expanding their offerings for outdoor education, outdoor recreation and other associated uses in Coastal Alabama. The conditioned uses in the lease auction are consistent with the current operation of Five Rivers and will further the mission of the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources,” said Blankenship in a statement.
Next month, a 10-year lease for 5 Rivers will be auctioned. Bids begin at $500,000. The notice of public auction states the property must continue to be used for “education, recreation, meeting, event and other associated uses.” The notice also states the bid winner that leases the property may purchase it for $8.5M.
