Alabama officials address flash flooding

PHENIX CITY, Ala. ( WRBL ) — Heavy rain triggered flash flooding across Phenix City and Russell County. Local officials responded to growing community concerns.

More than five inches of rain fell in less than 24 hours—flooding streets and neighborhoods and pushing emergency crews into action.

Phenix City Mayor Eddie Lowe says he wants to assure the community that they are doing everything they can. “Natural disasters happen and certainly they happen here, which, you know, no city and no municipality likes to see. I just wanted people to know that our hearts goes out. We’re going to do everything we can. I know that we did open up some of the centers last night.”…
