Ex-boyfriend sentenced to life in prison in shooting death of Montgomery student

Daiyon El-Amin was sentenced April 17 to life in prison after pleading guilty to murder in the 2021 shooting death of 17-year-old Alabama Christian Academy student Leiah Holmes.

Holmes was a rising senior and cheerleader at ACA when El-Amin broke into her Delmar Drive home in Montgomery and shot her, Montgomery County District Attorney Azzie Oliver said. Holmes and El-Amin had briefly dated, Oliver said.
