BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WBRC) – Good morning and Happy Friday!
We have declared a FIRST ALERT WEATHER DAY for Friday into Saturday due to the possibility of strong to severe storms.
THE NEXT 24 HOURS: Overnight, the Storm Prediction Center upgraded our risk to Enhanced (level 3/5) for areas from Emelle to West Blocton to Anniston and points to the northwest.
All modes of severe weather are possible, including gusty winds and hail. The tornado threat is low, but not zero, especially in NW Alabama.
A broken line of storms will move in from the west as early as 2 pm. This line will gradually move east, crossing the 20/59 corridor around rush hour.
Overnight, another round of storms is expected just after midnight. High temperatures today will hover in the mid and upper 80s before storms arrive.
