EMMITSBURG, Md. (WSFA) – The National Fallen Firefighters Foundation (NFFF) will host the 44th National Fallen Firefighters Memorial Weekend on Saturday and Sunday in Emmitsburg, Maryland.
The honorees will include the following Alabama firefighters:
- Captain William A. Baumgartner, age 70, of the Lawrence Mill Volunteer Fire Department died in a motor vehicle accident while returning from a call on February 5, 2024.
- Firefighter Brice Jordan, age 74, of the Georgia Mountain Volunteer Fire Department, died on September 6, 2021, from complications of COVID-19.
- Fire Inspector Jerry Leverett, age 66, of the U.S. Army Garrison Redstone Arsenal Fire and Emergency Services, died on October 9, 2023, from complications of cancer.
- Firefighter Shannon McDonald, age 43, of the Georgia Mountain Volunteer Fire Department, died on September 26, 2021, from complications of COVID-19
“This weekend is a powerful reminder of the extraordinary courage and commitment of those who put their lives on the line to protect others,” said Troy Markel, Chair of the NFFF Board of Directors. “We come together not only to remember the fallen, but to stand in solidarity with their families and departments, letting them know their loved ones will never be forgotten.
