First Alert Weather: 40s return for Monday morning!

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WBRC) – First Alert AccuTrack shows a few sprinkles drifting southward across the Tennessee Valley into some of our northern counties tonight. Some moisture wrapping around the back of the low pressure system that came through yesterday will keep some passing clouds and a low chance around north of I-20 tonight. Otherwise, most of us will stay cool and dry.

Next 24 Hours: We have a First Alert for a chilly start on Monday morning. Temperatures will fall into the 40s thanks to a partly cloudy sky and light winds overnight, so make sure you grab the light jacket before you walk out the door. Some patchy fog will also be possible, but nowhere near as widespread as we saw Sunday morning. Temperatures will rebound into the low 70s by the afternoon under a mix of sun and clouds. Rain chances remain low.

Next Big Thing: A substantial rainmaker will move into Central Alabama on Tuesday night, bringing the potential for widespread rain and some embedded thunderstorms heading into Wednesday. Humidity levels will climb back up again as deep moisture funnels back into the Deep South. A good 1-2 inches of rain will be possible with this system, so we will have to keep an eye out for the possibility of at least some localized flooding.

Looking Ahead: Though we initially forecast higher rain chances later in the week as well, models have been backing off a wetter pattern later in the week. For now, we’re just accounting for a 30-40% chance for some showers and storms on Thursday and Friday. Next weekend may end up trending drier, too. Temperatures will continue to below average early in the week eventually turning more seasonable for May in the days ahead…
