Construction education class gives Alabamians opportunity to break into the field

An Atlanta-based company that specializes in teaching construction skills conducted its first Alabama class, with the intention to host more in the future in the Yellowhammer state.

Construction Ready , an adult education program that’s been running since 2014, has trained over 1,800 people for construction careers. The classes have been offered in Georgia and Florida, but this past month’s Opelika class was the first of its kind in Alabama.

The 20-day class allows students to get started on certifications needed to work in the field at an entry level, including OSHA 10-Hour training, first aid, forklift safety, and more that are built into the schedule . There’s also a hiring fair at the end of the class, and the students do a project where they make a picnic table to learn how to handle tools…
