(WHNT) — It has been one year since several tornadoes ripped through the Tennessee Valley.
The evening of May 8 and the morning of May 9, 2024, brought severe storms that produced 20 tornadoes across the region.
There were 15 tornadoes in North Alabama and 6 tornadoes in Southern Middle Tennessee. Most of these tornadoes were EF-0 and EF1, but two were EF-3.
One of the EF-3 tornaodes was the Brigadoon tornado. The tornado had an estimated peak wind speed of 136 mph, a damage path length of 2.22 miles, and a maximum width of 0.13 miles.
The other EF-3 tornado was in the Henagar community in DeKalb County. The EF-3 Henagar tornado touched down south of Morris Mill, ripped through Elliott Crossroads, and continued on toward New Home before lifting near Highway 117.
