Safe driver study shows growing divide between safest and riskiest U.S. cities to drive in

MONTGOMERY, Ala. (WSFA) – Allstate’s 2025 “America’s Best Drivers Report,” an annual report ranking the 200 most-populated cities in the U.S. by how safe their drivers are, has been released.

The report, which first launched in 2005, is a compilation of data related to auto insurance claims in these cities that shows changing trends in safe driving over time.

According to the report, these 10 cities have the lowest annual auto collision rates in the U.S.

  1. Brownsville, TX
  2. Boise, ID
  3. Fort Collins, Co
  4. Cary, NC
  5. Laredo, TX
  6. Olathe, KS
  7. Scottsdale, AZ
  8. Port St. Lucie, FL
  9. Madison, WI
  10. Eugene, OR

These 10 cities were reported to have the highest collision rates:

  1. Boston, MA
  2. Washington, D.C.
  3. Worcester, MA
  4. Springfield, MA
  5. Glendale, CA
  6. Los Angeles, CA
  7. Oakland, CA
  8. Providence, RI
  9. Philadelphia, PA

Huntsville, Alabama ranks 12th for the safest drivers in the U.S., according to the data. Birmingham falls a fair way behind at 55th place, and Montgomery further behind at 61st. Mobile rounds out Alabama’s major cities at 65th place.
