HOPE HULL, Ala. (WSFA) – The Alabama Safari Park is welcoming a 6-foot-tall bundle of joy!
Gertie the giraffe is the first giraffe calf born at the safari park.
Her mother, Greta, carried her for 15-17 months and finally gave birth to the baby on May 8. She weighed 115 pounds and stood 5’7″ at birth!
“Gertie’s just like any baby—silly, playful, and full of personality,” said Park Director Kait Wilson. “She’s got the best little mean mug we’ve ever seen, and while she’s not always thrilled with mom’s over-preening, the bond between them is heartwarming. Greta Lynn has been an incredible mother—attentive, patient and still one of the most beloved members of our herd.”…
