BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) — After Texas Gov. Greg Abbott vetoed a bill that would ban all consumable hemp products that contain THC, Birmingham Mayor Randall Woodfin is calling on Gov. Kay Ivey to call a special session and revise a bill regulating hemp that she signed earlier this year.
The bill in question (HB445) caps THC levels to 10 milligrams per serving in a product, bans it for people under 21, place a 10% tax on products, and limits them to establishments licensed by the Alcoholic Beverage and Control Board.
Woodfin claims the bill Ivey signed (HB445) would devastate small businesses and working families. Additionally, Woodfin wrote that under the current bill, a product that could be legally purchased today will become a felony offense next week, while possession of marijuana remains a misdemeanor…
