Watching the eastern Gulf for tropical development this week

Storm Team 10 and the National Hurricane Center is monitoring an area of storms across the eastern Gulf for tropical development this week.

Currently, the threat looks low and the NHC has a 30% this becomes a tropical depression or stronger in the next 7 days. The higher impacts from this disturbance will stay well east of Louisiana and Acadiana. The area being tracked has expanded further east to cover the east coast of Florida, Georgia, and the Carolinas.

Regardless of tropical development, heavy rains will be likely across the beaches of Mississippi, Alabama, and Florida this week and weekend. Also, rip tide dangers will be high as a low tries to develop across the northeastern Gulf.

Tropical Storm Barry quickly formed this weekend in the Bay of Campeche and has already made landfall across Mexico. The next name on the list is Chantel (shahn-TAHL).
