Alabama introduces new policy to curb student vaping by November deadline

MONTGOMERY, Ala. — The Alabama State Board of Education has unveiled a new policy aimed at curbing vaping among students, as announced by State Superintendent Dr. Eric Mackey. The policy introduces a two-step approach for handling students caught vaping.

“The first time is their parents get called. So these are not that kind, you know, not issues that we’re going to expel kids for but vaping has become a serious problem in our schools,” said Dr. Mackey. He further explained, “But if a student’s caught the second time vaping, they have to demonstrate that part of their that, you know, part of their punishment is they have to sit and go through it.”

The policy mandates an anti-vaping class for second-time offenders, a requirement under a new state law. The board is expected to adopt the model policy by September, with school districts required to implement it or a similar policy by November…
