‘Trying time’: Montgomery shelter struggles as hundreds of animals arrive

MONTGOMERY, Ala. (WSFA) – The Montgomery Humane Society is asking for the community’s help as it faces an overwhelming surge in animal intake.

In the month of June alone, more than 720 dogs and cats entered the shelter. Executive Director Steven Tears says the numbers are putting serious strain on staff, space, and resources.

“It’s very expensive,” Tears said, “The amount of medications to keep them healthy, amount of food that we feed twice a day. It’s just incredibly expensive this time of year.”…
