Alabama lawmaker calling for more transparency with DHR after 3-year-old dies in hot car

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WBRC) – An Alabama lawmaker is demanding more oversight and accountability for the state’s Department of Human Resources (DHR) following the tragic death of 3-year-old Ke’Torrius “KJ” Starkes Jr., who died after being left in a hot car while in the state agency’s custody.

Representative Patrick Sellers (D–District 57) says this heartbreaking tragedy highlights urgent flaws in how DHR operates, and he’s calling for immediate action.

“I have a soon-to-be 9-month-old daughter. It strikes home very hard,” Sellers said. “I could never leave my child in a hot car. Where I go, she goes.”…
