WETUMPKA, Ala. (WSFA) – Elmore County is embarking on a new initiative that includes the construction of a new jail, more funding for fire departments, new road projects and more.
Elmore County has seen a 40% increase in population in the past 20 years, outgrowing the public services.
“We have a great quality of life in our county, and we pay, per citizen, we pay a lot less than most other counties,” Elmore County Commission Chair Bart Mercer said. “What we fear is, it’s a situation where we don’t have enough revenue to provide the services that we are accustomed to providing, and we don’t have the buildings that we need.”…
