Union representing Montgomery Fire and Rescue asks for wages increase

MONTGOMERY, Ala. (WSFA) – Some Montgomery firefighters have called upon the City Council to deliver a fair, competitive pay increase. However, city leaders argue that the pay is already competitive.

The Local 1444 Union that represents Montgomery Fire and Rescue says its members aren’t making a competitive enough wage, and requests a ten percent increase. They presented their facts and figures to the city council, comparing their wages and workload to those of Birmingham Fire and Rescue.

“There’s a 1000 run difference between our department and them, and they’re making more money,” David Watson, President of the Local 1444 Union, said…
